Why they love him

The legend, as it is told on set.

It started at a photo shoot that had nothing to do with him. Claude was somebody's dog, parked on a blanket in the corner so he would stay out of the way.

The models had been talked at since eight in the morning. The photographer explained light to them. The stylist explained their own hair to them. Someone from the agency explained what time it was.

Claude explained nothing.

He sat down, looked each of them in the eye and listened. He did not interrupt. He did not check a phone. When one of them dropped a bucket hat on his head as a joke, he kept it on for the rest of the day, because she had picked it.

By lunch the shoot was about him. By evening they were arguing over who got to fix the brim.

Nobody has ever seen him smile, and that is part of it. When Claude looks at you that seriously, you know he means it.

The proof

Three on set. Two fix the hat and cannot stop smiling. The third does all the face work.

Three reasons

  • Close-up of the bucket hat on the bulldog's head

    He wears what you pick

One size too big, both ears covered. He has not taken it off since.

  • Close-up of the bulldog's face looking straight at the camera

    He holds eye contact

Brown eyes, black mask, no glancing over your shoulder.

  • The bulldog's paws planted on the knitted blanket

    He stays

Put him on a blanket and he is still there when you come back.

The dog

The facts on file. He keeps the rest to himself.
